The Save Berkeley Vale group believes that the harm the Turbines will do to the environment far outweighs any possible benefits. We believe that the true facts and figures behind the Turbines are often hidden by a ‘green smokescreen’. They are a monstrous intrusion into the landscape adjacent to a conservation area and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB), and will be visible for miles.

Also consider this question - why put turbines in the bottom of a valley when everyone knows it’s windier on the top of the escarpment?

They don’t generate significant Electricity unless they are in a very exposed windy positions, which Berkeley Vale isn’t, so at best they will generate between 10% and 15% of their total rated output – so for 85% of the time they are doing nothing more than being a useless blot on the landscape! Indeed, when the wind is not enough to turn the blades, electricity will still be used for the electrical control gear and the substation converters– thus using even more reserves up! ! There are many more efficient and effective ways of generating electricity than through wind turbines in Berkeley Vale.

They are noisy; the ETSU-R-97 guide line document regarding this issue is hopelessly out of date. Turbines sizes have at least doubled since that was written 13 years ago! There are numerous reported incidents of sleep disruption due to noise, leading to other health problems.

Their only beneficiaries are the land owners and the developer, and he only makes money from them by virtue of the Renewable Obligation Certificates he receives from a subsidy on your electricity bill.

We will be adding even more problems to this page over time.
